Within the framework of declaring 2026 as the “Year of Mobilization in Combating Addiction,” comprehensive educational programs have been implemented by the Addiction Prevention Coordination Office of Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University. These programs aim to enhance students’ cognitive awareness levels and strengthen preventive mechanisms against risky behaviors. The initiative adopts a multidimensional approach targeting not only knowledge acquisition but also the transformation of attitudes and behavioral repertoires among university youth.
In this context, a comprehensive training event was organized in the campus conference hall under the project titled “Conscious Generations, Independent Future: A University-Based Approach to Combating Addiction.” The program was coordinated by Dr. Tuğba Dağdeviren, Coordinator of TOGÜ Addiction Prevention and Vice President of Yeşilay Tokat Branch, and implemented with the contributions of Dr. Eda Güngör, Dr. Gülçin Demirdil, and Psychologist Aydın Dündar.
The training program addressed key themes such as types of addiction (substance, behavioral, and digital), risk factors, early warning signs, and prevention strategies. Additionally, expert-led sessions were conducted on the following topics:
• Addiction Awareness Trainings
• Gendarmerie Cybercrime Awareness Training
• Gendarmerie Narcotics Training
• Yeşilay Introduction
• YEDAM Introduction
Furthermore, peer educators from the Young Yeşilay TOGÜ Club conducted dedicated sessions on technology addiction, and informational brochures prepared by Yeşilay were distributed to participants.
The training process was supported by interactive presentations and case analyses encouraging active participation, aiming to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical application. Particular emphasis was placed on preventive models and support mechanisms applicable within the university context.
The strong participation of Vice Director Lect. Dr. Güler Uzun, academic staff, and students in the program indicates the growing institutional sensitivity and collective awareness regarding the fight against addiction. This outcome highlights the effectiveness of university-based intervention models not only at the individual level but also at the institutional level.
Our university adopts a proactive approach against addiction risks that threaten the physical, psychological, and social well-being of young individuals and continues to develop sustainable policies encompassing awareness, prevention, and intervention processes. In this respect, the implemented educational activities contribute to the systematic institutionalization of the “healthy campus” vision. 04.05.2026
